CBD oil benefits are many, at least as far as the current research goes. However, what exactly are these benefits? Does CBD oil benefit everyone of any age?
Does it have any side-effects? What not to expect from CBD oil? What influences/effects these benefits? Why isn’t CBD oil working for you?
These are just some of the questions we’re answering today in this piece. In fact, the primary reason why CBD and CBD oil suddenly is so popular is because of its never-ending list of benefits.
We’ll share the benefits, but first, a brief introduction?
What is CBD oil?
Some of you on this piece may be completely new to this and may not have much idea on what CBD oil is, right?
The most popular definition for CBD oil is- “It’s the miracle drug”.
A more technically correct answer will be that CBD oil is an oil generated from CBD. CBD stands for Cannabidiol and has the chemical formula- C21H30O2.
CBD is a component in the Cannabis plant. But, CBD isn’t the only component in the plant, rather, it only accounts for 1 of over 130 other identified components. Various modes of extraction are available and used to extract the CBD oil from CBD.
So, let’s start discussing the reasons to use CBD oil in detail?
CBD Oil benefits
For those who’re in a rush, here are the primary benefits CBD oil is credited with:
- Cancer and Sclerosis problems
- Brain problems
- Acne and skin-problems
- Heart problems and high blood pressure
For those who need more details on the why and how of these benefits, as well as medically & research-backed proof, do keep reading.
This is one of the primary issues CBD oil is used to treat. Any kind, or most different kinds of pain can be treated with CBD and that’s what makes it the “miracle drug”.
There’s an easily understandable explanation to how this is possible. Anandamide is a neurotransmitter which controls or regulates pain in our body.
Because of the way CBD works, it minimizes the interaction of CB1 receptors with Anandamide. As a result, we feel less pain.
Do note that this is an extremely simplified version of an otherwise complex reaction in our brain.
b. Cancer and Sclerosis problems
CBD oil also helps with Cancer and Sclerosis among many other problems. Canada has even approved a 1:1 ratio for CBD : THC in order to help with Cancer pain.
There’s also research proving anti-cancer behaviour after CBD administration. Sure, so far it only has been studied in animals, but, a promising result nonetheless, isn’t it?
The same study also states that CBD already has entered phase-2 of clinical studies as an anti-cancer agent.
c. Brain problems
This is arguably the most “established and proven” benefit of CBD. Why so? The FDA (Food and Drug Administration) has itself approved the oral solution called –Epidiolex.
This is the planet’s first CBD-drug to be approved by the FDA. This also is one of the reasons why CBD started gaining mass popularity.
Epidiolex is used to treat two rare forms of Epilepsy. However, CBD also may prove effective against Dementia, Alzheimer’s and other brain problems.
I guess some would categorize this as a brain problem as well. Although, it’s not exactly a “problem”, is it? Anyway, Anxiety is one of the other issues CBD oil is used against.
In a research, 400mg of CBD was tested on participants demonstrating social anxiety disorder. The result was a very clear drop in anxiety levels. This further proves that CBD and CBD oil may help with anxiety.
Even the NCBI has a research paper claiming that CBD can help with Anxiety disorders. Actually, CBD seems to help not just with the social anxiety, but also with PTSD, panic, OCD and other anxiety-related issues.
This is a controversial one. We just said CBD reduces pain, anxiety, brain problems etc. didn’t we? Now, when trying to sleep, if these are dealt with, naturally we sleep better, right? In this context, CBD oil totally helps us sleep better.
But, on the other hand, CBD also makes users more alert and helps prevent daytime sleepiness.
The topic is a broad one. This is why, we published a detailed guide answering CBD sleeping effects in detail.
f. Acne and skin-problems
I’ll make it simple for you to understand. “Sebum” is what directly & indirectly results in acne. CBD oil prevents too much Sebum from being created in our body. Hence, no or less acne.
The above screenshot is from the same research paper published on NCBI which proves the statement above. (Source: https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC4151231/)
There also have been studies trying to understand CBD’s antibacterial and antifungal properties. There has been promising results, especially when CBD oil is mixed with other carriers such as Coconut or Olive oil.
g. Heart problems and high blood pressure
There are numerous heart problems CBD helps with as well. Congestive heart failure is one of the most common and dangerous heart issues CBD may help prevent. One of the many ways it does this is by limiting heart arrhythmia.
Another study on NCBI directly and authoritatively claims that “a single dose of CBD reduces blood pressure”.
This also indirectly means your bodies can respond better to stress and other problems which are responsible for high blood pressure.
CBD oil also helps with diabetes. That’s the short answer. If you need the research, mechanism and proof behind the statement, here’s a research paper from the American Diabetes Association.
A short explanation? Well, CBD may help improve glucose control and reduce inflammation. Both of which lead to anti-diabetic results.
The never ending CBD-benefits list
Those were the advantages of CBD oil which have been either proven, or are majorly believed.
However, the actual list of CBD benefits includes almost “everything”. Sure, most of it is pure speculation, while the rest hinges on very thin research.
However, CBD Oil is also considered to be a potential solution for:
- Antioxidant properties
- Lung problems
- Skin problems
- And a lot more.
Why isn’t CBD oil working for you?
So, you’ve read this list, you’ve used (or, maybe are planning to use) CBD and yet you aren’t sure if it will work on you?
Do note that CBD is very selective. Meaning, its benefits depend on a dozen different factors. And, these “factors” differ for each individual.
So, if your friend got relief using CBD oil, doesn’t guarantee you’ll see the exact same results.
Rather, CBD oil benefits depend on:
- Biological condition & age
- Potency of the oil
- In-take/administration mode
- And many other factors.
We’ve put up a detailed guide on factors influencing CBD’s time-to-effect. Go through the piece and you’ll see why CBD oil benefits aren’t exactly straightforward.
Also, if you choose the wrong CBD oil, you wouldn’t benefit from its true potential either. So, here’s a guide on how to choose CBD oils.
Are there any CBD oil side effects?
Yes & no. That is because every drug/mind-altering substance will probably have side-effects, right?
But, then again, CBD oil side effects depend on your own definition of “side-effect”. E.g. more sleep may be a side-effect for some while a benefit for others.
The common side-effects generally associated with CBD oil are:
- Parched mouth
- Lesser appetite
- Diarrhoea etc.
Also, CBD oil seems to have problems with grapefruit-products.
Remember that sticking to a consistent dosage (without increasing it too much) and keeping your health and symptoms in check is one of the easiest ways to avoid CBD oil side-effects.
Also, these side-effects too are very rare, and selective. They’re only seen in certain individuals while the majority of CBD oil users do not report any side effects.
As mentioned in our CBD sleepiness guide, even WHO has certified CBD as “safe” so that’s some trust-booster, isn’t it?
Is CBD oil legal?
Finally, addressing the elephant in the room. Yes, CBD is legal in most U.S states and other countries across the planet (with some exceptions.)
The legality largely lies with the “source” of the CBD oil. If it’s hemp-derives and contains <0.3% THC, it’s legal. If it’s derived from any other source, and/or contains >0.3% THC, it’s illegal.
Do note that nothing on this page is a medical advise, or suggestion for treatment. You should consult your (certified) doctor before using any information available on this page in any way.
Summary – Are there other CBD oil benefits?
Yes, there certainly are. The world has only scratched the surface when it comes to CBD oil. Given the previous history and benefits that CBD oil gets us, it’s safe to assume there are a dozen other problems CBD oil can help with.
Human trials aren’t exactly legal. Animal trials aren’t exactly correlated with the human body. And, the interest in CBD is still in its infancy. All in all, we’ve yet to discover a lot about this miracle cure of ours.
However, in a nutshell, we’ve tried to only include those CBD oil advantages in this piece which can be proven via a research paper, study, or just expert advise. Do note that this list of CBD oil benefits isn’t all-inclusive, and will be updated very frequently in the near future.
